“I was bullied”- I encourage everyone to read this

rune-midgarts:

I am crossposting this from a good friend of mine who posted this as a note on facebook. She was bullied and harassed for years at her school for supporting gay rights in her small parochial private school. I commend her for her steadfast courage and determination against all the foolishness that was being thrown her way. I couldn’t stop crying and am so angry with how these ‘friends’ and her teachers treated her.
I encourage everyone to read and pass along Anna’s story. We’re all here rooting for you girl!

Oh the irony of trying to send out a “positive” message with a not-so-cleverly disguised attempt at shaming, blaming and morally-policing. And that also looks like a male body. Even worse.

barfology.

"As an [agnostic], I see nothing “wrong” in believing in a God. I don’t think there is a God, but belief in him does no harm. If it helps you in any way, then that’s fine with me. It’s when belief starts infringing on other people’s rights when it worries me. I would never deny your right to believe in a God. I would just rather you didn’t kill people who believe in a different God, say. Or stone someone to death because your rulebook says their sexuality is immoral. It’s strange that anyone who believes that an all-powerful all-knowing, omniscient power responsible for everything that happens, would also want to judge and punish people for what they are."

Newark Mayor Cory Booker Responds to a Question about the NJ Marriage Equality Referendum

Booker 2016

See, this is how you talk about it.

You DON’T say “marriage equality is JUST LIKE the separate but equal stuff POC dealt with, come on folks, this is civil rights all over again, gay is the new black!”

You say, “this is a civil rights issue, and it should be a given, not something voted for; this is a minority.”

Dear State of Georgia, (commentary on HB 954)

lotti-chan:

Dear State of Georgia,

I congratulate you on your recent passage of HB 954,the “Women as Livestock” bill, because, as a woman and a feminist, I believe that medieval attitudes towards women are definitely something we should imitate, because clearly, as the name suggests they are modern and forward-looking. Not only that, but I’m sure all women enjoy being compared to pigs! Women walked out of the debates on the bill because they were just so pleased to hear themselves brought down to the level of animals. I mean, it’s not like we’re human beings just like men and other lawmakers.

As woman, I just love it when I’m treated like an incomplete human being incapable of making informed decisions about my own body. You know, because women don’t like to think for themselves and don’t have their own personal issues that they need to deal with and consider, so we need lawmakers and men to tell us what to do. Especially because middle aged men know the most about women’s health, and they clearly know that any woman who is pregnant is mentally and physically prepared to be pregnant, because things like rape, incest and accidental pregancies don’t exist in our world. Therefore, only the health of the fetus matters, women themselves are insignificant. I also love it when I’m treated like my only purpose in life revolves around my uterus, because who cares about being respected as a sentient human being when you have a uterus? Obviously not women, since you know, apparently we are like livestock!

Awesome job Republicans, way to win the support of women in America!

I hope you never make it to the Oval Office.
